As we wind down....
Sorry that I have been neglecting you all lately.  Its just been difficult to get stuff out of my head and into writing. It seems that my process called more for quiet reflection than for getting things off my chest. This year has brought an abundance of growth and knowledge. As well as a deeper understanding of who I am. Financially I needed more abundance but it seems 2010 was not to be my...

What is bliss?
Bliss is going for an early morning run and feeling the fresh air on your body. Bliss is standing at the top of a steep mountain or hill that you have climbed and admiring the view. Bliss is making new friends, who you feel like you have known forever. Bliss is feeling completely comfortable in my skin, exactly where I am right now. What’s yours?

Technology breakdown!
I have been the portable Bermuda triangle for all of my technology!  My phone, my lap top even tumblr on my phone disappeared.  All forms of communication-crashed! So I figured that I just had to run with it and be out of touch for a while.  Now because I believe that everything in my outer world mirrors my inner world, I began to look at the parts of my inner world that were crashing, or had...

No time to be healthy?
The most commonly used excuse for not being healthy and for not exercising is that people feel they don’t have time. Here is a story for you… There is a guy who sells newspapers on a main road that I drive to work.  I start very early in the morning at 5am and when I drive past him in the mornings he is exercising.  He has developed a routine whereby he squats and sprints up and down...

My parents say it's how I'm built but I want to know if it is possible to be skinner so that maybe my legs weren't so big at the top and...

Re-inventing the calorie
What exactly is a calorie? It is a promise of energy.  Think of a piece of fruit containing 50 calories, it has converted the suns energy into a bio-available source that can easily be used by the body.  Now we are all expending energy all day every day without even leaving the couch.  Somewhere between 1200 to 2000 calories a day are utilised for normal bodily functions depending on your lean...

Boost your health-Boost your business
I think we agree that the days of eating for survival are long gone.  We are eating for health, vitality and efficiency.  The demands on us to be more, with less rest have never been greater. Poor health leads to sluggish bodies that battle to be productive.  We resort to extreme measures in order to achieve our goals.  Eventually the body breaks down and disease occurs and we all know that the...

Re-inventing thoughts
The funny thing about thoughts is that you don’t know which ones are helpful and which ones are harmful.  They are all jumbled into the mix in that head of ours. Working out in the gym has not been working for me lately.  I have been battling to do it and I feel like my legs are made of lead. Enter harmful thoughts: I am so lazy.   I am getting fatter. I am a fake of a trainer and a...

Re-inventing suffering
The reason we suffer and are not happy is because we constantly believe we should be somewhere other than where we are. I am tired-I shouldn’t be tired, force myself to have energy, keep going, push on, don’t show people what’s going on. The body I have is not good enough, I want a better one, a fitter one, a thinner one. The work I am doing is not what I want to be doing, I...

Re-inventing the small business
Although we didn’t win last night the experience really highlighted the wealth of Small Business in South Africa.   It is true that with the world economic climate being as it is, big business is down-scaling and it is up to small businesses to pick up the slack.   Entrepreneurs are creating jobs out of passion and great ideas.  I was proud to be amongst those people who don’t just sit...

Re-inventing a positive attitude
Sometimes having a positive attitude is up to me and sometimes it feels like it is beyond my control. I have just come out of a dark space, and yes I worked it, and did what I could to shift it.  But there is also something to be said for sitting with our feelings.  I think we fear that our feelings will overwhelm us and that we won’t survive.  But what if fighting them is how we feed...

Re-inventing a lazy Sunday
So tell me how many calories do you burn lying in bed thinking about getting up? How many calories are burnt by having good intentions? Reading a good book? Stroking the cat? Meeting a friend for coffee? Why can’t these things burn calories? Life would be so good. Happy lazy Sunday people. We move our bodies again tomorrow.

What do you say to a spring detox?
Some of you may actually be in Autumn/Fall but the concept is the same.  Anybody up for a detox?   As I said before, the best way to clean is as you go, so take a look at your current diet and eliminate the toxins one by one.  We will also add in portions of fresh, raw vegetables in order to support the body’s detoxification pathways. So what are some common allergens or toxins?  Well it...

When you don’t believe your thoughts, what is is what you are. There’s no separation in it. You are everything. Only the unquestioned mind would believe that you’re an I living inside a body. Byron Katie

Re-inventing questioning our thinking
I have once again been drawn to the work of Byron Katie. She says that whenever we believe our thoughts we suffer. Now we can’t be expected to change the way we think overnight but we can question our thoughts. My favourite song in my head goes something like this; My body is not ok. If I were thinner I would get more business. If I ate less, I would be more attractive. I am useless....

Re-inventing reality
Do you love things exactly as they are? Or do you love what you think they should be? Do you suffer when things don’t work out as you think they should? We see reality through our filter. Our minds are filtering reality and placing judgement on what we perceive. What does that mean for how you see your body? How is your judgement affecting how you treat your body?

Re-inventing spring
The best way to clean is as you go. So embark on a detox that supports your body rather than shocking it.  Think about foods that you can add in rather than depriving yourself.  Cruciferous vegetables for example offer the nutrients that your body requires in order to detoxify effectively.  The problem with fasting detoxes is that they put you into stage 1 of the process which releases the toxins...

Re-inventing giving up
Have you ever had those times when you just want to give up? You are tired of the struggle, and feel like you have run out of ideas. I am not just talking about the body journey here, but a general fatigue that pervades many aspects of your life. There are really only 2 options. Give up and deteriorate. Or stand up and fight. Get more creative, source people to support you. Look at angles...

Re-inventing-What is good posture?
How you do an exercise is more important than the exercise itself.  There are many people who are working out and are actually doing more harm than good.  If you are wondering why you are not getting the results you seek then perhaps you are doing the exercises incorrectly. The shoulder girdle and the hip girdle are the two areas that should be concentrated on.  Have a look at yourself in a...

Re-inventing reflections
On this day reflect on your health mosaic. There are so many facets to you/your body/your health/ your vitality and your human essence. You are a wonder of nature and belong here as does any other living thing. Take up space and enjoy being alive. It is your right! I think perhaps we get so caught up in our heads with being thinner, better, eating less and exercising more that we forget to...

Re-inventing the last day
So here we are day 21. Measure your body fat and your lean muscle mass. Fat must come down and lean muscle must go up. Acknowledge yourself for what you have achieved and look at areas where you can fine tune. You have established some great habits. Keep these going as part of your lifestyle. Tomorrow we rest. Well done.
